Yeşilhisar apple production recovers following previous year's frost
Apple production in the Yeşilhisar district of Kayseri is seeing a significant recovery following a severe frost last year that reduced yields by approximately 90 percent. This season, the region expects a total harvest of about 120,000 tons from its 32,000 decares of orchards.
Local producer Ünal Habanoğlu, who transitioned from a hobbyist to a professional grower over eight years, manages 130 decares of land featuring 25,000 dwarf apple trees. He expects a personal yield of 400 tons from his orchards. The apples, noted for a unique aroma attributed to winds from Mount Erciyes, are being sold to both domestic markets and international buyers, including India, Egypt, Qatar, and Dubai.
