Yeşilkaraman village maintains memorial wall for deceased residents

In the Yeşilkaraman neighborhood of the Aksu district in Antalya, a unique tradition has been maintained for approximately eight to nine years. A memorial wall located in the village square displays photographs of deceased residents to preserve the community's history and ensure younger generations do not forget their ancestors.

Neighborhood Head Kerim Dikmen explained that the initiative began with a local resident and has since become a respected tradition. The wall features names and nicknames under the photos, and visitors often stop to offer prayers for the deceased. Dikmen noted that while cemetery visits are standard, seeing these images concretely in the village square provides a different emotional connection to the past.

In addition to the photo wall, the community continues the tradition of holding annual religious services (mevlit) in the square to commemorate those who passed away during the Prophet's birth week. Local resident Ramazan Kaya expressed pride in seeing relatives among the photos, noting that the display helps residents remember even those they had nearly forgotten.
