Yeşilköy beaches face swimming bans due to Marmara Sea pollution
Pollution and algae accumulation in the Marmara Sea have led to swimming bans at the Yeşilköy and Menekşe beaches in Istanbul. Despite official 'No Swimming' warning signs, some citizens, including children, have been observed entering the water.
The Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change previously imposed a fine of 1,678,000 TL on İSKİ after detecting illegal wastewater discharge from the Yeşilköy Fishing Harbor.
To monitor safety, the Ministry of Health, through the Istanbul Provincial Health Directorate, conducts water sample analyses every 15 days during the summer season. Authorities emphasize that swimming areas may be closed if analysis results are unfavorable and urge the public to check the 'Swimming Water Tracking System' for up-to-date information.
