Yekeh Kolubah declares independent bid for Liberia’s 2029 presidency

Former Montserrado County Representative Yekeh Kolubah has officially declared his intention to run for the presidency of Liberia in 2029 as an independent candidate. During a press conference in Monrovia, Kolubah stated he intends to work with an organization called the National Movement.

Kolubah explicitly rejected rumors of a reconciliation with President Joseph Nyuma Boakai following his recent return to Liberia from Ghana. He dismissed suggestions that he would seek an apology or a meeting with the President to settle political differences, stating, “I will never beg President Boakai and that’s final.” He noted that while a representative from the ruling Unity Party suggested the President holds no personal grievance against him, Kolubah remains focused on his independent bid.

In the broader political landscape, Musa Hassan Bility, a lawmaker from Nimba County, has criticized the culture of partisanship in Liberia, arguing that elections should not validate political wrongdoing. Additionally, Bishop Kortu Brown has called for the development of a genuine “third political lane” to provide voters with alternatives to the country’s established political parties.
