Yelena Isinbayeva regains public attention

Former pole vault legend Yelena Isinbayeva has regained public attention following the circulation of vacation photos on social media.

Isinbayeva is recognized as the first woman in history to clear the five-meter mark, a feat she first achieved in London in 2005. She later set a world record of 5.06 meters in Zurich in 2009, which remains her personal and current world record. Her career highlights include Olympic gold medals in Athens (2004) and Beijing (2008), a bronze in London (2012), and multiple world and European championship titles.

Beyond her athletic achievements, Isinbayeva maintained close ties with the Russian state leadership, receiving support from Vladimir Putin, who hosted receptions in her honor. She was also active in his 2012 and 2018 presidential campaigns. Following her retirement from athletics in 2016, she was appointed to the Athletes' Commission of the International Olympic Committee.
