Yellow rust threatens coffee production in Peru's Vraem

Coffee producers in the Vraem region of Peru are facing significant threats to their crops due to yellow rust, a disease that impacts production and quality. During the Coffee Week event in Huamanga, Emerson Yaranga, president of the Federation of Coffee Growers of Vraem, highlighted that managing such diseases remains a primary concern for the sector.

Between 5,000 and 6,000 producers operate in the area, with many expanding their cultivation zones. While some entrepreneurs have successfully reached international markets through formalization, the federation emphasized the urgent need for technical assistance and coordinated institutional support to address crop vulnerabilities and improve production stability.
