Yellowstone and Grand Teton report 2026 visitation trends
Recent visitation data for Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks shows fluctuating tourism trends through August 2026.
Yellowstone National Park recorded approximately 3.49 million recreation visits through August, representing a 1.6% decrease compared to the 3.54 million visits recorded during the same period in 2025. August visitation specifically saw a 3% decline from the previous year. The West Entrance remains the park's busiest access point, accounting for roughly 43% of recreational automobile entries through July.
Grand Teton National Park has maintained steady numbers, with year-to-date visitation through August sitting at 2,791,375, nearly identical to the 2,791,376 visits recorded during the same period in 2025. While August visitation at Grand Teton was down 2.5% from last year, the total year-to-date figure was bolstered by an exceptionally busy period from January through May. If off-season visitation remains high, 2026 could potentially become the second-busiest year on record for the park.
