Yellowstone National Park: Lost dog Luna found alive after month-long search

Luna, a 10-year-old Jack Russell terrier, has been found alive after spending more than a month lost in Yellowstone National Park. The dog escaped from a family cabin in the Canyon Village area on September 10 after housekeeping staff accidentally opened a door despite a “Do Not Disturb” sign.

Rescuers from the Norris Ark Training and Recovery Center, led by volunteer Katie Boucher, successfully captured the dog using a live trap baited with items smelling of her owners, including a T-shirt and a pillowcase. The operation was conducted under significant pressure as winter weather approached and seasonal park closures loomed.

While Luna is reported to be underweight after her time in the wilderness, rescuers stated she is alert and in good spirits. Her survival in an environment inhabited by predators such as wolves, bears, and coyotes was attributed to strong survival instincts developed during her first year living on the streets.
