Yemen braces for thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds across multiple governorates

The National Center for Meteorology and Early Warning issued a weather outlook for Yemen covering the period from 27 July to 28 July 2026. Forecasts call for thunderstorms and varying‑intensity rain in mountain areas, including Taiz, Dhale, Ibb, Dhamar, Raymah, Al Mahwit, Al Hajjah and Al Amran, with gusty downdrafts and occasional hail. Coastal regions such as the plains of Tihama, the western coastline, the Gulf of Aden, and the islands of Socotra are expected to see hot, humid conditions with scattered rain and wind speeds of 24‑48 knots. Desert zones, including parts of the Mahra, Hadhramaut, Marib and Al Jawf, will remain hot (max 40‑45 °C) with occasional showers.

Authorities warned of flash‑flood risks in valleys and riverbeds, urging residents to avoid crossing bridges when water flows, stay clear of flood channels, and seek shelter from storms. Fishermen and ship crews were advised of rough seas and higher waves around Socotra and the eastern and southern coasts. In hot, humid areas, officials recommended drinking plenty of fluids and limiting sun exposure between noon and 4 p.m.
