Yemen calls for firmer EU stance against Houthi violations
Yemeni Foreign Minister Afrah Al-Zouba has called on the European Union to adopt a more “effective and firm” stance against Houthi violations. During a telephone call with EU Ambassador Patrick Simonet, Al-Zouba highlighted the urgent need to mitigate the impact of military escalations on Yemeni security, regional stability, and international maritime safety.
Al-Zouba reported that over four million residents in the Taiz governorate are suffering due to Houthi attacks on residential areas and an intensified siege. This blockade has led to critical shortages of food, water, medicine, and fuel, while worsening the conditions of displaced persons.
In response, Ambassador Simonet reaffirmed the European Union’s support for the Yemeni government and its commitment to coordinating with international and regional partners to alleviate the humanitarian crisis and promote stability.
These diplomatic efforts coincide with ongoing military developments, including the Yemeni army’s “Fajr Yemen” operation launched on October 5, which aims to reclaim state institutions. Recent reports indicate the Yemeni military repelled a Houthi attack on the strategic Jabal Han mountain west of Taiz.
