Yemen: Deportation of northern citizens from Al Dhale'e sparks controversy

The deportation of citizens from northern governorates in the Al Dhale'e, Aden, and Lahj regions has triggered widespread condemnation across Yemen. Activists and journalists have criticized the measures as discriminatory actions based on regional identity, warning that such practices threaten the country's social fabric and could be exploited by Houthi forces to weaken anti-Houthi fronts.

Critics argue that the forced removal of workers and citizens under the guise of security measures undermines the rights to movement and employment. Some local leaders and commentators have described the actions as a “stab in the back,” expressing concern that regional profiling exacerbates internal divisions during a period of heightened military tension.

In response, officials in Sana'a have condemned the deportations, accusing Saudi-led authorities of overseeing the removal of simple laborers to sow sectarian and regional discord within the country.
