Yemen Foreign Minister Afrah al‑Zouba calls for ceasefire as political path in UN talks

Yemeni Foreign Minister Afrah al‑Zouba met United Nations Special Envoy Hans Grundberg via video link to review the latest political and humanitarian developments in Yemen. She warned that ongoing Houthi attacks threaten international navigation in the Red Sea, Bab al‑Mandeb and the Gulf of Aden, and stressed that any cease‑fire must be a stepping‑stone toward a comprehensive political settlement rather than a means to entrench the Houthi‑led coup.

Al‑Zouba accused the Houthi militia of imposing a twelve‑year humanitarian and economic burden on the Yemeni people, looting state resources, blocking aid deliveries and using ports to fuel regional escalation. Grundberg reiterated UN support for an inclusive political process and urged the international community to apply pressure on the Houthis to comply with UN resolutions and halt violations.
