Yemen Foreign Minister discusses economic recovery and maritime security in New York

Yemeni Foreign Minister Afrah Al-Zouba held high-level meetings on the sidelines of the 81st UN General Assembly in New York to discuss economic recovery and regional security.

In a meeting with Rania Al-Mashat, the Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA), Al-Zouba discussed strengthening partnerships to support Yemen's economic stability and institutional capacity building. The discussions focused on utilizing ESCWA's technical expertise in public policy and developmental planning to aid Yemen's sustainable development and recovery efforts.

Al-Zouba also met with Comfort Ero, CEO of the International Crisis Group, to address the impact of field developments on regional security and international maritime navigation. The talks highlighted the consequences of Houthi militia escalations in the West Coast and Bab al-Mandab, which have impacted civilian infrastructure and increased humanitarian needs. Al-Zouba noted that targeting commercial shipping in the Red Sea threatens international trade routes and regional security, emphasizing the government's commitment to economic and administrative reforms alongside security efforts.
