Yemen declares it will not be a bargaining chip for regional powers

Yemen's Foreign Minister, Afrah al-Zouba, has stated that Yemen will not serve as a bargaining chip or a field for settling differences for any regional power. In an interview with Sputnik, she emphasized that the country should not be used to offset losses in other geopolitical conflicts.

Al-Zouba specifically addressed Iran, with the Yemeni Ministry of Foreign Affairs asserting that Tehran is attempting to leverage the situation in Yemen to improve its own negotiating position amidst ongoing tensions with the United States.

The Minister highlighted that restoring state authority is essential for regional security and the protection of international maritime navigation, particularly in the Red Sea and Bab el-Mandeb. She warned that military control of a territory does not equate to the right to manage maritime traffic and asserted that Yemen's sovereignty over its islands and coasts cannot be altered by force.
