Yemen Gas Company expects domestic gas crisis to resolve within one week
The Yemen Gas Company has announced that the domestic gas crisis is expected to resolve within five days to one week. The shortage, which has severely impacted cities like Aden and Taiz, was attributed to maintenance at the SP1 plant and a technical fault at the CPU 2 plant in Marib.
Executive Director Mohsen bin Wahait stated that production had previously dropped by approximately 20 tankers per day. However, maintenance at the SP1 plant is complete, and the CPU 2 plant is expected to return to service shortly, which should restore production to its previous rate of approximately 50 tankers per day.
To manage the shortage, the company has directed local authorities to prohibit the use of domestic gas for commercial, industrial, and agricultural purposes, prioritizing household consumption. The company also noted that there is currently no emergency reserve stock available. Other contributing factors to the supply instability include tribal blockades affecting tankers traveling from Marib and increased consumption due to the use of gas in vehicles.
