Yemen gas production faces 6,000 barrel daily deficit after plant shutdown

The Yemen Gas Company has announced the shutdown of the CPU-2 gas production plant in the Safer area, leading to a significant deficit in domestic gas production. The plant ceased operations on the morning of Tuesday, August 18, 2026, following a sharp decline in output over the preceding ten days. The shutdown is expected to result in a daily shortage of approximately 6,000 barrels, equivalent to about 20 gas tankers.

In response to the shortage, the Minister of Oil and Minerals, Mohammed Abdullah Bamqa, has directed the Yemen Gas Company to increase daily gas supplies to central distribution stations for a period of three days. This measure aims to mitigate the deficit caused by maintenance work and ensure continued supply to citizens.

Mohsen bin Wahit, Executive Director of the Yemen Gas Company, emphasized the need for coordination between local authorities, the Ministry of Industry and Trade, and security agencies to oversee the distribution and prevent any irregularities during this period.
