Yemen gold and currency rates show major regional disparities
Gold prices and currency exchange rates in Yemen continue to show significant disparities between the Sanaa and Aden regions due to divergent monetary policies and economic conditions.
In Sanaa, the price for 21-karat gold was recorded at approximately 67,000 to 70,000 Yemeni Rials per gram. In contrast, prices in Aden are substantially higher, with 21-karat gold reaching between 196,000 and 197,597 Yemeni Rials per gram. The gold sovereign (8 grams of 21-karat) also shows a massive gap, priced at over 1.58 million Rials in Aden compared to roughly 540,000 Rials in Sanaa.
The foreign exchange market reflects a similar divide. In government-controlled areas like Aden, the US Dollar has been trading around 1,555 to 1,562 Yemeni Rials, while the Saudi Riyal sits at approximately 410 Rials. In Houthi-controlled Sanaa, the exchange rates remain much lower and more stable relative to the local currency, with the US Dollar trading between 531 and 540 Rials and the Saudi Riyal at approximately 140 Rials.
