Yemen Health Minister meets partners to boost emergency response

Yemen’s Minister of Public Health and Population, Dr. Qasim Buhaybeh, held an extensive meeting with health sector partners, known as the Health Cluster, in the temporary capital of Aden. The meeting focused on addressing the deteriorating health and humanitarian situation caused by recent escalations, which have resulted in increased casualties, mass displacement, and damage to medical facilities and assets.

Participants, including Ministry undersecretaries and the World Health Organization (WHO) representative in Yemen, Dr. Syed Jaffar, reviewed current indicators and the urgent need to enhance the readiness of health facilities. Key priorities identified include strengthening emergency departments, intensive care units, ambulance fleets, and medical referral services. There is also a critical focus on securing strategic stockpiles of essential medicines and medical supplies for affected populations.

Dr. Buhaybeh emphasized the necessity of unified efforts and flexible coordination between the Ministry and international and local organizations to ensure the continuity of basic health services, particularly for the most vulnerable groups and displaced persons. International partners reaffirmed their commitment to coordinating with the Ministry to provide the necessary funding and emergency support to prevent the collapse of essential medical services.
