Yemen Health Ministry boosts emergency readiness and gender-based violence training

Yemen’s Minister of Public Health and Population, Dr. Qasim Buhaybeh, has called for increased health readiness to manage various emergency situations. During a meeting with provincial health directors, the Minister emphasized the need for integrated, actionable emergency plans at both central and local levels to ensure rapid response and protect lives.

Dr. Buhaybeh stressed that central emergency plans must align with the specific geographic, demographic, and resource realities of individual provinces. He highlighted the importance of identifying potential risks, coordinating between sectors, and accurately assessing available medical staff, hospital beds, and supplies to address gaps effectively.

In a separate initiative in Aden, the Ministry launched a specialized training program for 30 health workers focused on managing gender-based violence. Organized by the Ministry’s General Administration for Women and Children in partnership with the World Health Organization and supported by the World Bank, the training aims to improve the quality of care and protection for women and girls in the Abyan, Lahj, and Taiz governorates.
