Yemen Health Ministry launches distribution of 2.1 million malaria nets

Yemen’s Minister of Public Health and Population, Dr. Qasim Mohamed Bahib, inaugurated the receipt of a shipment of about 2.1 million long‑lasting insecticidal nets supplied by the Global Fund through the International Organization for Migration (IOM). The nets are part of the national malaria‑control programme and will be distributed to the most malaria‑prone districts, including 528,000 nets earmarked for the liberated governorates.

The distribution targets 15 districts in the western coast, Al‑Dhale, Lahj, Abyan and the Socotra archipelago, aiming to protect more than four million residents—especially children, pregnant women and other vulnerable groups. The effort is coordinated by the National Malaria Control Programme under Dr. Yasser Abdullah Bahsham and supported by IOM’s health director Dr. Sharbel Samhan, and is scheduled to continue through 2027.
