Yemen: Houthi cultural erasure and government drone strikes in Sanaa

In Sanaa and other Houthi-controlled areas of Yemen, the Houthi militia is reportedly conducting a systematic campaign to alter the nation's cultural and historical identity. Reports indicate the militia is erasing references to the September 26 Republic Revolution by renaming hundreds of schools, hospitals, and streets. Over 850 government schools have allegedly been renamed to replace republican symbols with sectarian or militia-aligned figures. Additionally, there are reports of a massive destruction of national archives, where historical documents, land registries, and civil status records are being destroyed or hidden to erase the republican era and pre-1962 history.

Simultaneously, military tensions have escalated as Yemeni government drones conducted precision strikes on strategic Houthi sites in Sanaa. The attacks targeted a command center in the Dahr Himyar area and an intelligence headquarters at Jabal Nuqum. These strikes reportedly killed four high-ranking Houthi leaders, including military experts linked to the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps. The use of advanced long-range drones marks a shift in the conflict's technical capabilities, allowing the government to penetrate Houthi security depths in the capital.
