Yemen Human Rights Ministry reports 100 child deaths from Houthi recruitment

The Ministry of Human Rights has issued an urgent appeal to families in Houthi-controlled areas of Yemen to protect their children from recruitment and combat deployment. The ministry reported that field data from recent armed escalations shows a significant presence of child soldiers among both the deceased and prisoners of war.

According to documented information, including names and photos, at least 100 children recruited by the Houthi militia were killed during armed confrontations in September 2026. The ministry noted that this figure only represents verified cases and suggests the actual number is likely higher.

The ministry documented instances of child abductions and recruitment across several provinces, where children are reportedly taken to mobilization camps before being sent to the front lines. Recruitment methods include cultural courses, summer centers, and general mobilization programs, often exploiting poverty to pressure parents.

Authorities have called on community leaders, educators, and social figures to reject child recruitment and assist in returning recruited children to their families and schools. The ministry held Houthi leadership and recruitment supervisors legally responsible for the safety of these children and urged the United Nations and international organizations to increase monitoring and pressure to stop these practices.
