Yemeni Interior Minister Major General Ibrahim Ali Haidan met with the British Ambassador to Yemen, Abda Sharif, to discuss enhancing security cooperation and bilateral partnerships to promote stability in Yemen and the wider region.
During the meeting, Minister Haidan reviewed the Ministry of Interior’s developmental plans, institutional reforms, and efforts to build the capacity of security agencies. He specifically highlighted the importance of UK support for the Coast Guard and expressed a desire for increased information and expertise exchange to secure Yemeni territorial waters and coasts.
Haidan also addressed regional security threats, condemning the actions of Houthi militias and accusing Iran of using these proxies to extend conflict from the Strait of Hormuz to the Bab al-Mandab strait. He noted that these activities threaten international shipping in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden, as well as the security of Saudi Arabia. Ambassador Sharif affirmed the United Kingdom’s commitment to supporting the Yemeni government and its security institutions to foster regional stability.
