Yemen journalist Mahmoud Al‑Hamidi faces threats in Marib

The Yemeni Journalists Syndicate condemned serious threats made against Mahmoud Al‑Hamidi, a correspondent for Al Jazeera’s Arabic channel, after he reported on recent airstrikes targeting Houthi‑controlled sites in Marib province. The syndicate said Al‑Hamidi received a phone call accusing him of being a “mercenary” and threatening violence against him and his family wherever they are. The International Federation of Journalists also denounced the intimidation, calling it a blatant violation of press freedom.

Both organisations demanded immediate protection for Al‑Hamidi and his relatives and urged Yemeni authorities to open an urgent investigation to identify and prosecute those responsible. The threats come amid an increasingly hostile environment for reporters in Yemen, highlighted by previous attacks such as the killing of journalist Mohammed Ayda in Hadhramaut.
