Yemen launches strategic workshop to revitalize coffee sector

The Yemeni Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation, and Fisheries has launched a technical consultative workshop in Aden to review the draft policy paper and strategic plan for the country’s coffee sector for the period 2027–2031.

Organized by the Abs Development Organization for Women and Children (ADO) in coordination with the Ministry, the initiative is funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and partnered with Vision of Hope International (VHI) and the Istijabah Foundation. The project aims to enhance biodiversity and the resilience of rural communities by improving the quality and marketing of coffee and fruits.

The strategy seeks to unify the efforts of government agencies and international partners to boost production, improve quality, and increase competitiveness in global markets, particularly in the specialty coffee sector. Key challenges identified for the plan to address include water scarcity, the deterioration of agricultural terraces, and weaknesses in financing, infrastructure, and logistics.
