Yemen Ministry of Information launches government fact-checking center
The Yemeni Ministry of Information has launched the ‘Government Fact-Checking Center’ to combat misinformation, fake news, and digital forgery. The initiative aims to enhance the accuracy and reliability of content within the media and digital landscapes.
Minister of Information Moammar al-Eryani stated that the center is an institutional step to increase media awareness, particularly as digital deception tools and AI-generated or modified content become more prevalent. The center will focus on verifying claims related to government institutions, the armed forces, and security services.
Its scope includes reviewing official documents and data, monitoring impersonating accounts, and verifying images, videos, statistics, and figures to detect content that is fabricated or taken out of context. The center will rely on primary sources, official evidence, digital verification tools, and open-source research. It has committed to transparency in its methodology and will provide educational materials to help the public recognize digital forgery techniques.
