Yemen mourns Wafaa Saddam Al‑Basha after kidnapping and killing in Sana'a

Wafaa Saddam Al‑Basha, a 27‑year‑old woman, was abducted in November 2025 after leaving a money‑exchange office in Sana'a. While a civilian attempted to intervene, the kidnappers shot her, and she later died from her wounds. Her body was kept in a hospital refrigerator for ten months before a funeral was finally held on 7 August 2026.

Yemeni security forces arrested several suspects who confessed to the crime, but no court verdict has been issued yet. The burial attracted large crowds, with mourners chanting for swift punishment and condemning the slow judicial process. The case has sparked widespread public anger over rising violent crime and perceived impunity in the capital.

Family members have called for the full application of the law against the perpetrators, urging authorities to expedite the pending trial.
