Yemen officials coordinate fisheries and agriculture development

Authorities in Yemen are coordinating efforts to bolster the fisheries and agricultural sectors to enhance food security. In the Socotra Archipelago, Governor Raafat Al-Thaqli led a meeting to prepare for the 2026–2027 fishing season. Discussions focused on improving production and marketing, addressing challenges faced by fishing associations, and attracting investors to stabilize the market. The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) is reportedly supporting the sector through various projects currently under study or implementation.

Simultaneously, the Minister of Agriculture, Irrigation, and Fisheries, Salem Abdullah Al-Suqatri, met with officials in Abyan to discuss agricultural development. The meeting highlighted projects aimed at supporting greenhouse farming, protecting agricultural lands in the Abyan Delta, and improving irrigation systems. Recent floods in the Abyan Delta have successfully replenished local dams and canals, providing irrigation for approximately 6,200 acres of land.
