Yemen political shifts focus on presidential neutrality and Hadramaut governance

Political developments are intensifying in Yemen, focusing on institutional reform and regional governance. Academic and political writer Alfat al-Dubai has called on President Rashad al-Alimi to separate the office of the Head of State from the leadership of the General People's Congress party. Al-Dubai argues that this separation is essential to ensure political neutrality, prevent the misuse of state resources for partisan interests, and fulfill the mandates of the National Dialogue Conference.

In the Hadramaut governorate, the Higher Coordination Council is scheduled to hold a founding conference on August 31, 2026. Political figure Badr Mohammed Baslama described the event as a critical step toward unifying local forces and protecting the region's resources. Baslama advocated for the council to serve as a broad national umbrella for all residents and proposed a public referendum to allow the people of Hadramaut to democratically decide their political future through transparent and honest mechanisms.
