Yemen prepares for heavy rains and strengthens partnership with WFP

Local authorities in Aden launched a field campaign to clear debris and build earthen barriers along the Siel al‑Haswah watercourse, aiming to improve drainage and reduce flood risk ahead of an expected low‑pressure system that could bring heavy rain in August. The operation involved the public works office, the sanitation fund and community committees under the direction of Governor Abdulrahman Sheikh and district officials.

In parallel, Yemen’s Minister of Social Affairs and Labor, Mukhtar al‑Yafii, met with the World Food Programme’s country representative, Khader Dalom, to discuss deepening cooperation. The talks focused on aligning humanitarian and development interventions, improving food‑security monitoring, and moving from emergency aid toward sustainable livelihood support for vulnerable communities.

Both initiatives reflect the government’s effort to boost preparedness for imminent weather hazards while enhancing coordination with international partners to address food insecurity and social protection needs.
