Yemen security source warns of Houthi militia text message entrapment campaign
A security source from the Ministry of Interior has issued a warning to citizens in liberated provinces, specifically in Taiz and Al Hudaydah, regarding a disinformation campaign conducted by Houthi militias.
The campaign involves sending text messages through the Yemen Mobile and YOU telecommunications networks, which are under Houthi control. These messages contain calls for “amnesty and return,” which authorities describe as a systematic psychological warfare and entrapment tactic designed to exploit citizens and collect personal data for security purposes.
Authorities have urged the public not to respond to these messages, contact the provided numbers, or share any personal information. The warning emphasizes that previous victims of such tactics have faced severe consequences, including imprisonment, torture, and enforced disappearance in Houthi prisons. The Ministry has called on telecommunications and information technology sectors to take urgent legal and technical measures to prevent the misuse of these networks for such campaigns.
