Yemen signs €1.2 million water and sanitation agreement

Yemen’s Minister of Water and Environment, Tawfiq al-Sharjabi, has signed an agreement with Solidarités International to implement a project aimed at improving water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) services and health resilience in the country’s western coastal districts.

Based in Aden, the 12-month project is funded by the European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations (ECHO) with a total cost of 1.205 million euros. The initiative targets approximately 55,634 people, including displaced persons and vulnerable host communities in the districts of Hays, Mawza, Mocha, and Al Khokha.

The project includes rehabilitating four water supply systems and nine health facilities, constructing toilets, and providing hygiene supplies. Additionally, it involves training water and sanitation committees in service management and maintenance, alongside conducting hygiene awareness campaigns to mitigate health risks.
