Yemen to reactivate geothermal energy exploration project
Yemen’s Minister of Water and Environment, Tawfiq al-Sharjabi, met with the Acting President of the Geological Survey and Mineral Resources Authority, Ahmed Yamani al-Tamimi, to discuss reactivating a geothermal energy exploration and evaluation project.
The discussions focused on completing technical studies and geological/geophysical works. Previous studies, particularly in eastern regions, have shown promising indicators that warrant further detailed assessment to determine the potential for resource utilization.
Geothermal energy is viewed as a key renewable source for Yemen, offering opportunities in electricity generation, medical tourism, industrial and agricultural applications, carbon dioxide production, food drying, and heating for protected greenhouses. The Ministry aims to secure the necessary technical and financial support to transform scientific findings into viable developmental and investment projects.
