Yemen Transport Minister discusses aviation security and port development

Yemen’s Minister of Transport, Mohsen Haidara Al-Omari, held meetings in Aden to discuss enhancing aviation and maritime security and infrastructure.

Regarding aviation, the Minister met with Gabriel Osher, CEO of the American company Valar, to coordinate the second phase of a civil aviation security project. Following the first phase, which focused on Aden International Airport and compliance with International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) standards, the second phase will include technical training, risk assessment, and potential expansion to other airports. Valar has agreed to extend the project implementation period by five months.

In the maritime sector, Al-Omari met with leadership from the Arab Sea Ports Corporation and the Maritime Affairs Authority in Mukalla. The discussions focused on operational readiness and the signing of tenders for developmental and rehabilitative projects at Mukalla Port. The Minister emphasized the need for increased vigilance and the activation of emergency committees to mitigate risks stemming from regional escalations and Houthi militia activities.
