Yemen Transport Minister orders airport evaluations and anti-smuggling measures

Yemeni Minister of Transport Mohsen Haidara al-Omari has ordered a comprehensive evaluation of airport performance and aviation safety. During a meeting in Aden, the Minister directed the General Authority for Civil Aviation and Meteorology to submit transparent reports detailing technical and administrative challenges, needs, and proposed solutions.

To ensure continuous oversight, the Minister mandated bi-monthly evaluation meetings to monitor airport operations and air traffic control centers. He emphasized that all entities operating within airports must fall under the direct supervision of airport leadership in accordance with the law.

In a separate effort to streamline commerce, the Ministry is developing an integrated plan to combat smuggling across land, sea, and air ports, with a focus on controlling prohibited and dual-use materials. Al-Omari also pledged to protect traders from illegal practices, such as the obstruction of goods or delays in processing import requests. The President of the Aden Chamber of Commerce and Industry suggested establishing a clear, updated list of permitted and prohibited import items to assist traders in compliance.
