Yemen weather authority warns of heavy thunderstorms

The Meteorological Forecasting and Early Warning Center, part of the Civil Aviation and Meteorology Authority in Aden, has issued a warning regarding heavy thunderstorms expected across several Yemeni governorates. The weather event is projected to occur over a 96-hour period from September 8 to September 11.

Heavy rainfall is anticipated along the western and southwestern highlands and slopes, stretching from Saada in the north through Al Dhale, Taiz, and Lahj in the south, with effects extending east to Marib and Al Jawf and west to the coastal plains. Scattered thunderstorms are also expected in parts of the deserts and internal highlands in Al Mahrah, Hadramaut, Shabwah, Al Bayda, and Abyan, with a possibility of reaching Aden.

Authorities have urged citizens to exercise caution, specifically advising against staying in valleys or flood paths and avoiding slippery, muddy roads. Warnings were also issued to stay away from electricity poles, advertising signs, and trees during thunderstorms due to the risk of wind gusts and lightning.
