Yemen weather authorities warn of heavy thunderstorms and flash floods

Meteorological authorities in Yemen have issued warnings for heavy thunderstorms and potential flash floods across several provinces over the coming 72 hours. Forecasters predict varying intensities of rainfall, including potential hail, particularly in the western and southwestern highlands and slopes.

Key areas expected to receive heavy rain include Saada, Mahwit, Hajjah, Amran, Sana'a, Raymah, Dhamar, Ibb, Taiz, Lahj, Abyan, and Al Dhale'e. Eastern and desert regions, including Marib, Al Jawf, Hadramaut, Shabwah, and Al Mahrah, may also experience thunderstorms and dust-carrying winds.

Coastal and desert areas are expected to face extreme heat and high humidity. In the Socotra Archipelago and the Gulf of Aden, sea conditions are predicted to be turbulent to very turbulent, posing risks to fishermen and mariners. Authorities have advised citizens to avoid valleys, flood paths, and staying near trees or electrical poles during storms, and to stay hydrated during extreme heat.
