Yemeni Ministry of Defense clarifies military salary deductions

An official source within the Ministry of Defense's financial department has clarified the reasons behind salary deductions for military personnel. The source stated that any deductions appearing in the salaries of armed forces members are calculated based on official daily attendance records and data submitted by military units.

These deductions are linked to specific administrative cases such as absences, desertion, or outstanding financial liabilities. The official denied that banks or payment service providers have any role in determining these amounts, noting that banking institutions strictly follow the approved lists provided by the Ministry.

The clarification follows complaints regarding salary discrepancies for personnel in the third, sixth, and seventh military regions during the April 2026 payroll cycle. The Ministry noted that funds resulting from these systematic deductions are not lost but are returned to the respective units to cover operational budgets and essential needs.

East Yemen Islamic Microfinance Bank also issued a statement confirming its role is limited to receiving approved payroll lists and executing transfers. The bank emphasized that responsibility for explaining any discrepancies lies with the financial and human resources units within the relevant military regions.
