Yemeni palaces added to Arab Heritage Register
The Architectural and Urban Heritage Observatory of the Arab States, an affiliate of the League of Arab States, has officially registered two Yemeni historical sites in the Arab Heritage Register. The recognized sites are the Sultan Al-Abdali Palace in Aden and the Sultan bin Afrar Palace, also known as ‘Beit Hanoub’, located in the historic city of Qishn in Al-Mahra Governorate.
The decision was reached during the observatory’s eleventh meeting held at the League of Arab States headquarters in Cairo, Egypt. Experts noted that the inclusion of these landmarks is the result of over three years of continuous effort and serves as a strategic step toward protecting these structures from decay and neglect.
This registration is considered a preliminary step toward seeking future inclusion on the UNESCO World Heritage List. The initiative aims to highlight the unique architectural and cultural value of Yemen’s provinces on regional and international stages.
