Yemeni scholars discuss Houthi exploitation of Prophet's Birthday

The Communication Program with Yemeni Scholars held an intellectual seminar in Riyadh to discuss the Houthi militia's use of the Prophet's Birthday for sectarian, political, and economic purposes. The seminar aimed to promote moderation and protect Yemeni society from extremist ideologies and sectarian infiltration.

Participants presented four working papers addressing different dimensions of the issue. Discussions included the historical and religious perspectives of the celebrations, noting Houthi transgressions such as forcing citizens to attend and labeling dissenters as traitors. Scholars also highlighted how the group utilizes the occasion for military and ideological mobilization, using religious symbolism to reinforce the leadership of its figures.

Furthermore, the seminar examined the economic and social impacts, specifically the financial burdens placed on citizens and the commercial sector through mandatory contributions and levies. Experts emphasized the role of religious scholars in countering this exploitation and clarifying the legal rulings regarding religious practices to prevent the reshaping of social consciousness through sectarian agendas.
