Yemen’s Giants Brigades intercept weapons‑making equipment bound for Houthi rebels in Bab al‑Mandeb

On 15 July 2026, pro‑government forces in Yemen, known as the Giants Brigades, carried out an intelligence‑led operation in the Bab al‑Mandeb Strait. They stopped a vessel that was transporting advanced machinery and electronic components intended for the production of weapons by Houthi rebels. The crew was detained and the cargo seized, with authorities beginning a formal investigation into the origin and destination of the materials.

The interception occurs at a strategic choke‑point that links the Red Sea to the Gulf of Aden, a key route for the flow of arms into the Yemeni conflict. Disrupting this supply line could limit the Houthi's ability to sustain their military campaign and highlights ongoing regional efforts to curb illicit weapons trafficking amid a sharp escalation of hostilities in the country.
