Hadhramaut forces capture suspects in journalist Mohamed Aida killing

Journalist Mohamed Aida, a correspondent for Al Arabiya and Al Hadath, was killed on 24 June 2026 in Mukalla, Hadhramaut, when an explosive device detonated in his car. Yemen’s security, military and intelligence agencies launched a joint investigation, gathering technical and digital evidence, reviewing surveillance footage and tracing the movement of suspects. The security committee announced the arrest of two principal perpetrators and several accomplices, seizing a Fox‑type vehicle, a motorcycle and related weaponry. The investigation linked the killing to a cell operating on behalf of the Houthi movement. The case has been transferred to the specialized criminal court in Mukalla for prosecution. Interior Minister Ibrahim Ali Haidan praised the rapid and coordinated response, while Hadhramaut Governor Salem Al‑Khanbashi highlighted the continued pursuit of anyone involved and reaffirmed the region’s security priorities.
