Yemen's National Asylum Committee discusses managing migration flows

The National Asylum Committee, chaired by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Mustafa Noman, met in Aden to discuss developments regarding refugees and migrants in Yemen. The meeting focused on enhancing national and regional responses to the challenges posed by increasing migration flows, including those from within Yemen and from the Horn of Africa.

Key proposals discussed include the establishment and operation of specialized centers to manage mixed migration flows and the strengthening of maritime search and rescue operations. The committee also explored transitioning from emergency response to sustainable recovery and development, specifically targeting infrastructure projects in the health, water, and interior ministry sectors to alleviate pressure on essential services.

Furthermore, the committee emphasized the need for a balanced approach that integrates humanitarian considerations with national security and interests. Members discussed increasing coordination with international partners and pursuing regional cooperation to mobilize necessary support for the migration and asylum crisis.
