Yen Tu-Vinh Nghiem-Con Son, Kiep Bac recognized as UNESCO World Heritage site
The Yen Tu-Vinh Nghiem-Con Son, Kiep Bac complex in Vietnam has been recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site. Spanning Quang Ninh, Bac Ninh, and Hai Phong, the site is deeply connected to the development of the Truc Lam Zen sect and the legacy of King Tran Nhan Tong, who founded the sect after abdicating his throne.
Key landmarks within the complex include Dong Pagoda atop Yen Tu mountain, Vinh Nghiem Pagoda—noted for its precious Buddhist woodblocks—and the Con Son-Kiep Bac relic sites. The recognition highlights the area's historical, religious, and natural significance.
In a report by Booking.com, the Yen Tu complex was featured as one of five recommended UNESCO World Heritage sites for travelers seeking cultural exploration without excessive crowds. The report notes that approximately 45% of surveyed Vietnamese travelers expressed interest in cultural tourism for 2026. Other featured heritage sites include Sukhothai in Thailand and Hahoe Folk Village in South Korea.
