Yeni Parti Chairman Güngen questioned over stabbing investigation

Erhan Deniz Güngen, the Gaziantep Provincial Chairman of the Yeni Parti, has provided a statement to police regarding his previous comments following a stabbing attack on Yeni Parti Member of Parliament Melih Meriç.

Güngen is under investigation for “publicly spreading misleading information.” During his interrogation at the Gaziantep Provincial Security Directorate, authorities questioned him about his claim that “certain circles” were attempting to hinder the party's growth through such attacks.

Güngen clarified that by “certain circles,” he was specifically referring to Seydi Ahmet Keleş, a former CHP Oğuzeli District Chairman and current member of the Yeni Parti, who is identified as the perpetrator of the attack. Güngen argued that his statements were intended to defend the party's institutional identity and suggested the attack was motivated by Keleş's expectations regarding political position and status.
