Turkish political parties undergo organizational shifts and legal disputes
Political activity in Turkey is marked by the rapid organizational expansion of the YENİ Parti and legal disputes within the CHP.
YENİ Parti has completed various district leadership elections and primary processes across several provinces, including Adana, Ankara, and İzmir. In İzmir, founding provincial chairman Çağatay Güç reported high participation rates and successful organization across 30 districts. In Esenyurt, a local congress was canceled following disputes and physical altercations, leading to proposals to divide the district into ten voting zones to manage large crowds. Other regional developments include the election of Cemal İlyasoğlu in İnebolu and various candidacy announcements in Ordu and Aydın.
In Erzurum, the CHP leadership has filed a criminal complaint against former provincial officials, including former chairman Serhat Can Eş. The complaint alleges misappropriation of funds, fraud, and forgery, claiming that approximately 9.8 million TL was transferred to Eş’s personal bank account.
Additionally, MHP leaders in Malatya and Diyarbakır have emphasized field-based politics and the goal of increasing parliamentary representation. Meanwhile, comedian Deniz Göktaş faces trial in Istanbul on charges including insulting the president and inciting hatred.
