Yeni Parti becomes second-largest Turkish parliamentary group
The Yeni Parti is undergoing a significant political expansion and organizational restructuring across Turkey. Following the resignation of Özgür Özel from the CHP and the subsequent movement of 90 deputies to the Yeni Parti, the party has become the second-largest political entity in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, holding 91 seats.
Simultaneously, the party is completing its local organizational phase through a series of district congresses. Key leadership updates include Çetin Mutlu re-securing the Anamur district chairmanship, Uğur Kalkan being elected in Şahinbey, and Mustafa Yalçın taking leadership in Sarıkaya. In Bilecik, Melih Karaçam was elected as the central district chairman, while Sedat Karakaya was re-elected in Kemer.
The party's influence is also shifting local government dynamics. In Denizli, the Merkezefendi Municipal Council saw a major shift in arithmetic after Mayor Şeniz Doğan and 16 other members joined the Yeni Parti, resulting in the party holding 23 seats compared to the CHP's 4. These developments mark a broad effort by the Yeni Parti to strengthen its grassroots presence and prepare for future elections.
