Turkey launches youth climate ideathon and municipal development programs
Various municipal and national initiatives in Turkey are focusing on youth development, cultural preservation, and environmental engagement.
In the environmental sector, the Ministry of Youth and Sports has launched the COP31 Youth Climate Ideathon. This program invites approximately 630 young people aged 15-29 across seven regions to develop concrete solutions for issues such as climate literacy, renewable energy, and water stress.
Cultural and social programs are also widespread. Mersin is transforming the historic 'Taş Bina' into a modern City Museum to preserve its local heritage. In Konya, specialized vocational training and summer schools for students with disabilities are being implemented to promote inclusivity.
Sports and skill-building remain a priority for several municipalities. Programs in Manisa, Kilis, and Bursa are providing free swimming lessons to children to improve safety and physical health. Additionally, summer sports schools in Kayseri and Kepez, and football training in Odunpazarı, aim to foster discipline and social skills among youth. Other local efforts include sign language training for municipal staff in Kayseri and music academies in Küçükçekmece.
