Yeoju Special School construction begins to address local educational needs
Construction has officially commenced on the Yeoju Special School at the site of the former Unam Branch of Buknae Elementary School in Yeoju, South Korea. The project aims to address a long-standing local need for specialized education facilities, as students with disabilities in the region previously had to commute long distances to neighboring areas like Icheon or Yangpyeong.
The new facility will be built on a site of 13,529 square meters with a total floor area of 9,714 square meters, spanning four floors above ground and one basement level. The school is planned to accommodate approximately 122 students across 20 classes, including kindergarten, elementary, middle, high school, and vocational programs. The total project cost is estimated at approximately 29.7 billion won.
Local officials, including National Assembly member Kim Sun-kyo and Yeoju Education Superintendent Kim Sang-seong, attended the groundbreaking ceremony. The school is scheduled to open in March 2028. The Yeoju Education Support Office plans to hold a contest for the school name in April 2025 and will activate a preparation task force in September to ensure a smooth opening.
