Yeon Sang-ho holds production briefing for thriller ‘Paradise Lost’

Director Yeon Sang-ho held a production briefing in Seoul for his new psychological thriller, ‘Paradise Lost’. The film follows a mother, played by Kim Hyun-joo, who is reunited with her son, played by Bae Hyun-sung, nine years after he went missing in a camping school bus accident.

Produced with a budget of approximately 500 million won, the film follows Yeon’s recent trend of low-budget, high-impact projects. ‘Paradise Lost’ was recently selected for a special presentation at the Toronto International Film Festival, where it received positive reviews for its raw emotional depth and intense performances.

During the briefing, Kim Hyun-joo discussed the challenges of portraying the character’s deep emotional state, noting that she maintained professional distance from Bae Hyun-sung during filming to preserve the necessary tension for their onscreen mother-son reunion. Director Yeon praised Kim’s ability to navigate the complex character, describing her performance as highly immersive.
